The Vandon Arms are a punk rock band from Des Moines, Iowa, United States of America. They formed in late-2005. They have built a reputation on their fast, tight, energetic take on Celtic Punk similar to that of Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, and The Pogues.
History
Biography
In late-2005 a group of friends (Aaron Buzbee, Clint Meek, Jeff Krantz, and Elliot Tommingo) started playing cover songs just for the fun of playing. The group had a wide range of musical interests but they were able to find common ground in the form of Irish-influenced music. The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, and Flogging Molly were favorites of each member. As the group's frequent drunken sing alongs became popular amongst close friends, it was suggested the group take their act public in order to get free beer at local bars.
In their short history The Vandon Arms have shared the stage with acts such as Reel Big Fish, The Tossers, The Quakes, Agent Orange, The Unseen, The Toasters, The Envy Corps, Flatfoot 56, Westbound Train, The Effigies,[1] The Flaming Lips, The Roots,[2] Drive-By Truckers, Radio Moscow, Black Francis, ALL, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Casualties, The Horrorpops, Mustard Plug, Jay Reatard, Teenage Bottlerocket, and Reagan Youth.[3] The band has also been featured on Black 47 front man Larry Kirwan's Sirius XM Radio show Celtic Crush[4]
In addition to their four EPs and one live album, the band's music has been featured on Paddy Rock Radio's Paddy Rock vol. 2,[5] The Mahones' tribute album 'Whiskey Devils; A Tribute to The Mahones',[6]
DeKalb, Illinois
In 2007 the band opened for Deal's Gone Bad at Otto's in Dekalb, Illinois. Prior to going on stage, members of the band were throwing full Mickey's grenade bottles around the bar. After their set band was asked to leave and told they were not welcome at Otto's again.
