The Southern Boys were a professional wrestling tag team in World Championship Wrestling also known as The Young Pistols. It was composed of Tracy Smothers and Steve Armstrong.

History

Steve Armstrong and Tracy Smothers started teaming as The Southern Boys in Florida Championship Wrestling in 1987 where they feuded with The New Breed. They moved on to Southeastern Championship Wrestling where they feuded with The Stud Stable.

They next went to World Championship Wrestling in 1990 where they feuded with The Fabulous Freebirds. A memorable moment of their feud with the Freebirds was the fact that when joining Lance Russell on commentary, both Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin would comically correct them as hailing from "Green Bay, Wisconsin". This feud lasted over a year with the Southern Boys winning most of the matches but getting laid out quite a bit.

In 1991, they changed their name to The Young Pistols, eventually turning heel and feuding with The Patriots and the team of Ron Simmons and Big Josh. By 1992, Smothers and Armstrong had stopped teaming, as Smothers concentrated on a singles career in Smoky Mountain Wrestling and Armstrong went to WWF for a brief singles run as Lance Cassidy before joining Smothers in SMW, teaming with his brother Scott.

In 2000 they teamed up briefly in Ohio Valley Wrestling where they feuded with "The Disciples of Syn".
