Theo is a populated place in the U.S. state of Mississippi, in Alcorn County. Theo is located just south of latitude 35, near the Tennessee border. It appears on the Kossuth North map of the U.S. Geological Survey.[1] The community is bisected by U.S. Highway 72.[2][3]

Located in a subtropical environment, the area has a mosaic forest, with notably hot, humid summers.[4]

Services

Theo is a small, rural residential community with few services. According to a travel website, it "is sparsely populated with 39 people per [square] mile. The nearest town larger than 50,000 inhabitants takes about 1:25 hour by local transportation." [4]

Emergency services are provided by the Union Center Theo Volunteer Fire Department, across the Tippah County line in Walnut, Mississippi.[5]

Theo does not have its own post office as of 2014; it shares ZIP code 38834 with Kossuth and Corinth, Mississippi. However, at some time in the past, it did have its own post office. In the late 19th century it had between 20 and 68 residents.[6] In the 1890s, the area was quite busy, and while there were roads and several post offices in surrounding communities, there was no train station in Theo.[7] By 1989, it was virtually a ghost town consisting of a few scattered homes and a general store.

There is a "church of Christ" in Theo.[3]
