Theodor Bastard is a Russian musical band from St Petersburg. It plays experimental music that combines elements of trip hop, neofolk, ambient and dark wave.

History

The band was created in 1996 by Fyodor Svoloch.[1] Later more members joined the group, including vocalist Yana Veva who also participated in Shiva in Exile. The band's name became Theodor Bastard in 1999. At the beginning they played mostly electronic, industrial, noise music but by the beginning of 2002 their style started to crystallize gradually, balancing on the edge of acid gospel/world music/trip hop. Harsh noises yielded to European gothic music and music of Oriental countries. In 2004 Theodor Bastard recorded the album Pustota ("Emptiness") which was positively rated by the critics and drew more fans.

Theodor Bastard creates mystical, archaic, atmospheric sounds. Yana Veva often sings in idiosyncratic language.[2] The band performs in various concerts in Russia also in the international festivals like Mėnuo Juodaragis.[3]
