Theragra is a genus of fishes in the cod family Gadidae, specifically containing the Alaska pollock (Theragra chalcogramma) of the Northern Pacific Ocean. Another species included, the Norway pollock (Theragra finnmarchica) has proven not to be distinct from the Alaska pollock. Moreover, recent research suggests that T. chalcogramma is a sister taxon to the Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), and Theragra should be considered a synonym of the genus name Gadus.[2][3] [4]
