Think Brownstone, Inc. is an American experience design firm with studios in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, and Center City, Philadelphia. Founded in 2007, the company designs software products, business applications, responsive websites and more. As of 2016, it employs more than 60 people.[1]
History
Think Brownstone was founded in September 2007 by partners Brian McIntire and Carl White. They created the company's first office, dubbed the Think Space, by refurbishing the second and third floors of the 1891 Sons Of America Building in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, transforming it into "an inviting and energizing space with high ceilings, oversized windows, comfortable couches and picture-framed whiteboards to capture ideas when they strike."[2][3]
In 2014, the company opened a second office in Center City, Philadelphia. Mayor Michael Nutter attended the July 10 opening ceremony. It occupies the mezzanine level of the 1924 Packard Grande building at 15th and Sansom Streets, once the home of First Pennsylvania Bank.[4][5] The foyer of the Philadelphia Think Space has a mural of Pennsylvania founder William Penn by local artist Jennifer Renshaw.
In 2014, Think Brownstone had a front-end development team that was 40% women,[6] and was recognized by the STEM/STEAM educational community for donating curriculum for a Design Thinking seminar series to STEAMworkPHILLY.[7]
Awards
In 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2015 Think Brownstone was listed as one of The Philadelphia 100, the "fastest growing, privately held entrepreneurial companies in the Greater Philadelphia Region" as determined by the Wharton Small Business Development Center, The Entrepreneurs' Forum of Greater Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Business Journal.[8] Think Brownstone was on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing privately held companies in 2012 (#1729), 2014 (#2741), and 2015 (#2530).[9]
Additional Think Brownstone awards include a 2014 “Best in Class” Interactive Media Award for the AMResorts family of websites (which also won one Silver and two Gold Magellan Awards and two HSMAI Adrian Awards) and a 2014 "Outstanding Achievement" Award for the Hay Group "Journey" mobile application and associated marketing website.[10]
In 2015, the Philadelphia Business Journal named Think Brownstone one of the top three Best Places to Work in the medium-sized business category (50-99 employees),[11] and named CEO Carl White one of the 2015 Most Admired CEOs.[12] White also won the SmartCEO/Marcum Innovator of the Year award for Business Services. [13]
In 2016, the Philadelphia Business Journal named Sr. Director of Technology Kimberly Blessing a "2016 Tech Disruptor Honoree".[14] Think Brownstone was also named a 2016 Top Workplace (ranked #3 of 35 Small Businesses honored) by Philly.com,[15] with an additional acknowledgement awarded at the ceremony in the category of ethics.[16]
