This High School Has Closets is a novel written by Robert Joseph Greene and published by Icon Empire Press in 2011 with a reprint the following year.

Plot

This story is about a high school boy, growing up in Oakville, Ontario Canada, who struggles with being gay while also trying to maintain a relationship.[1] It depicts the struggle of the boy—Mark Thomas—as he falls in love with someone from the same sex and how he deals with that while becoming an adult. It tells the tale of two teenage boys falling in love during a challenging senior year at school. The story is set against the backdrop of a brief time period in Canadian History when Marc Hall captured national attention by suing his school district in the Supreme Court of Canada case: Marc Hall v. Durham Catholic School Board. Marc Hall won the right to take his gay male partner to the prom.[1]

Controversy

In 2012, Greene's publisher found that librarians would not review This High School Has Closets because they might provoke negative reactions from the public.[2] This prompted the Canadian Library Association to reiterate their policy towards LGBT inclusiveness that would apply to "freedom of expression".[2]
