Thomas B. Doherty High School (DHS) is the newest high school in District 11 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, serving northeast Colorado Springs. The school was named for the District 11 superintendent at the time. The schools that feed into Doherty include Jenkins, Russell and Sabin middle schools.

The school's colors are blue and green, and the mascot is the Spartan.

Former principal Dr. Jill Martin was named the 2007 MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals National High School Principal of the Year.

The school is also known for its large percentage of Mormon students.

Athletics

Doherty High School is home to two gyms, two practice football fields, one soccer field, one baseball field, one softball field, a swimming pool, and a wrestling room. Doherty plays its Varsity and JV homes games for football, Varsity men's and women soccer at Gary Berry Stadium located near Wasson High School. Doherty has athletic programs in:[1]

Spike Shooter incident

In February 2007, the school gained national media attention when several students became ill after drinking Spike Shooter, an energy drink. As a result of the illnesses, which included two students being sent to the emergency room, the school banned Spike Shooter, and 224 7-Eleven stores in Colorado pulled the drink from store shelves.[3]

Can Dance

In the spring of 1985 Doherty High School sponsored the inaugural "Can Dance". Students brought canned food as admission to the event. All proceeds were donated to local food bank(s) and needy families.
