Thomas Melville

Thomas Melville (1830-1884) was a sailor and later governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor, and the younger brother of author Herman Melville.[1][2]

Captain Thomas Melville was born to Allan Melville (1782-1832) and his wife Maria Gansevoort (1791-1872). His paternal grandfather was Maj. Thomas Melvill (1751-1832), his maternal grandfather was Gen. Peter Gansevoort (1749-1812).
