Thomas Newton was an English professional football goalkeeper who played in the Football League for Portsmouth and Ashington.[1]
Personal life
Newton fought with the 17th (Service) Battalion of the Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment) during the First World War.[2] He was the battalion's first casualty on active service, suffering an injury while disembarking at Le Havre in the early hours of 17 November 1915.[3] He was wounded and captured by the Germans on 13 November 1916.[4]
