Legend

During the construction of Thiruchendur Murugan Temple, the temple's construction workers received sacred ash as their wage from the saints who built the temple. Thiruchendur Murugan Temple was built by saints and not by kings. The sages did not have very much wealth as king and so they offered sacred ash packed in leaves of panneer as the wage for the construction workers at the end of the day. The workers used to reach Thoondugai vinayagar temple while returning home. It is believed that the construction workers after praying to the god used to open the leaves package, and the sacred ash will turn into gold coins proportionate to their work done on that particular day.
