Tiago Pires (surfer)

Tiago Pires ( born on the 13 of March 1980 in Lisbon, Portugal) is a Portuguese surfer. He started surfing at the age of 9. He won the National championship in sub-14 and sub-16. At 16 in 1996, he has his first year in the national circuit and he meets Jose Seabra who becomes his coach. In 1997 he beats European Juniors at Hossegor to challenge the World Junior Title in 1998. There, competing against Andy Irons, C.J. Hobgood and Taj Burrow and others. In 1999 he went for the first time into the WQS ( World Qualifying Series ). In 2000 he got his first win on the WQS at Vila Nova de Gaia. In 2007 he qualifies for the WCT, finishing in 31st and requalifying through the WQS. Then in 2009 he gets a 24th place in the WCT and then in 2010 he finishes in 21st, his best ranking ever in the WCT.
