The man does have an understanding of international politics as well. The term 'sold down the river' does not apply only to USA political history, but that of all colonial powers, whose common rationality made the 'river' an economic, political, societal term for exploitation. To wit: "Both of them are populists in the sense that they believe they are tribunes of the people who they contend have been sold down the river by the elite for too long," said Professor Tim Bale, one of Britain's leading political analysts. <http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/08/06/us-usa-britain-trump-corbyn-idUSKCN0QB1T820150806>
