According to Eurostat, in 2007, Timişoara had a Larger Urban Zone of 329,555 residents on an area of 168 km2.[2]

The Metropolitan Zone of Timișoara is an undergoing project for the creation of an administrative unit to integrate Timişoara with the nearby communes: Dumbrăviţa, Ghiroda, Moșnița Nouă, Giroc, Sânmihaiu Român, Săcălaz, Sânandrei, Giarmata, Orțișoara, Remetea Mare, Şag and Parța.
