Tirana International School is an English-using international school in Tirana, Albania, established in 1991.[1] Its curriculum is similar to that of US schools. Students range from 3 year old to Grade 12. The current enrollment is 189 students.[2] Tirana International School is part of Quality Schools International and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The accreditation was renewed in 2012.
General
The school is a private non-profit institution that opened in September 1991. Tirana International School offers education in the English language for pre-school, elementary, and secondary students. Students between the ages of 3 and 18 are currently enrolled at Tirana International School. There are 193 students from 27 countries which makes Tirana International School a very diverse environment. Tirana International School is located in a residential compound. Some of the classrooms are located within converted residences.
School
Tirana International School is situated on a 5.5-hectare site at the edge of the city in an upscale, growing residential area. The new facility offers a full-size gymnasium; a cafeteria/auditorium; terraces, balconies, and informal study areas; two computer labs; and an outdoor sports complex that features a soccer pitch, track, lighted tennis court, and multi-purpose court.[3]
Curriculum
The curriculum includes English (reading, grammar, composition, keyboarding and spelling), mathematics, cultural studies (history, geography, economics, etc.), science (life, earth, physical, biology etc.), computer literacy, art, music, foreign languages (French and Spanish)and physical education as part of the regular program. Intensive English classes are provided for those with a limited knowledge of the English language.
TIS offers College Board Advanced Placement courses. AP courses give students the opportunity to earn a credit or advanced standing at most colleges and universities in the United States and Europe. We offer AP Art History, AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP World History, AP French, AP Psychology, AP Statistics, AP Literature, AP Composition, AP Studio Art, and AP Spanish.
Grading System
QSI (Quality Schools International) has a unique grading system compared to the other American school systems. The students are graded on the mastery of TSW's (the student will) for each class. There are two passing grades: A & B. Upgrading is possible.
Faculty
There 23 full-time teachers currently employed at TIS and 3 part-time teachers. There are also 7 paraprofessionals employed at Tirana International School.
The school facilities are located in converted residences inside a residential compound.It has two campuses.

Activities
Extra curricular activities and community activities are also offered for students to participate at Tirana International School. These activities include several sports (volleyball, basketball, soccer) knowledge ball, Model UN, robotics and several clubs. Some sports take place in Tirana and are organised by the international schools of Tirana. Students can also participate in the activities organised by CEESA. The school is also part of the "Tirana Association of International Schools".

Student Council
Secondary students elect representatives to organize activities such as dances,"lock-in", sleep-over,ski trips and fundraisers for community charities, and movie nights. They also talk more about events for CEESA and about the new school that is supposed to open in January 2014.
