Career

After graduating from Central Saint Martins college in London, Tom Aspaul began his career in music writing for other artists. In October 2013, Aspaul signed with Little Boots' label, On Repeat Records.[2][3] His only release with the label, the MNEK-produced single "Indiana", attracted support from Popjustice[4] and Pitchfork.[5] A remix of "Indiana" went on to top the Hype Machine Chart.[6] The original version of the song was covered and renamed as "Feels So Good" by Australian singer Kylie Minogue.[7] Minogue included it on her twelfth studio album, Kiss Me Once, with Aspaul contributing backing vocals.[8]

On 10 December 2014, Tom premiered "Good Together",[9] the first single from his debut mixtape, Revelation. The song, produced by GRADES, received support from Huw Stephens and was named by former BBC Radio 1 DJ, Zane Lowe as his "Next Hype".[10] The mixtape was self-released 19 May 2015, receiving acclaim from Billboard magazine.[11] Also in May 2015, Aspaul supported KStewart at her debut gig in London. Aspaul contributed the title track for Little Boots' third album, Working Girl in June 2015 [12] and joined her on tour, as support,[13] in November. Tom was chosen by BBC Radio 2 DJ, Jo Whiley as one of three acts from the West Midlands to perform at her BBC Introducing showcase, preceding the BBC Music Awards in Birmingham.[14]

Aspaul frequently cites the work of Rodney Jerkins, Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez amongst his main influences.[15] He continues to write for other artists, co-writing upcoming releases for Karen Harding,[16] Nathan Sykes, Alex Newell and AlunaGeorge.
