Tom Cilmi

Tom Cilmi (born June 5, 1964) is a Republican Legislator who currently serves constituents for the Tenth Legislative District of New York, and was first inaugurated in January 2010. The 10th District in Suffolk County encompasses Islip, East Islip, Hauppauge, Islip Terrace, Great River, Bohemia, Ronkonkoma, Bay Shore and Islandia.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] He formerly served as the president of the Islip Chamber of Commerce.[8][9]

Early life

Cilmi is a graduate of West Babylon Public Schools (1982) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the New York Institute of Technology (1986).[10][11][12]

Career

Legislation

Cilmi has been an outspoken critic of underage drinking and sponsored legislation to prohibit the sale of so-called binge drinking games to minors.[13]

He has spoken up against the NY State mandate of out-of-county tuition, particularly for F.I.T.[14][15]

Elections

He was first elected with 60% of the vote to the Suffolk County Legislature on November 3, 2009.

He was reelected in November 2011 with nearly 75% of the vote.[16]
