Early life

Kagan was born in Haifa, Israel, and moved to Sunnyvale, California with his family at age four.[3] He holds a bachelor's degree in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from University of California, Santa Cruz,[2] and paid his way through college by starting the T-shirt company Static Printing.[5][6] While in college, he founded and led a Jewish fraternity.[2] After graduating, he also founded the branding company Your Logo Here.[3]

Quixey

Kagan co-founded Quixey in 2009.[6] He met his co-founder Liron Shapira, as well as many Quixey employees, through the Jewish youth organization BBYO,[3] of which he is a "longstanding member".[2] In 2011, Forbes Magazine named him one of their "30 under 30" in technology for Quixey's success.[7] According to Kagan, his aim is for Quixey to compete directly with Google in the search market.[8]

Kagan has spoken at the Mobile World Congress and World Economic Forum.[2] He is a volunteer advisor for a chapter of Aleph Zadik Aleph, the fraternity branch of BBYO.[3] Kagan is also a board member of[3] and donor to[9] the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, an artificial intelligence nonprofit, and is a supporter of effective altruism.[2] He identifies as a "futurist", and works with the National Science Foundation on emerging technologies.[10][11]
