Tommi Sirkiä[1] (born 16 October 1977) is a Finnish composer, musician, producer and sound artist.

Early years

He was born in 1977 in Helsinki, Finland, into a Finnish family, grew up in Helsinki – Finland, Kiel and Dortmund in West-Germany, then moved back to Helsinki in 1990 with his mother and sister. He is fluent in English, Finnish, German, Portuguese and also speaks moderate Swedish. He studied in the Wilhelm Röntgen Realschule in West-Germany, German private school Deutsche Schule Helsinki, graduated from junior high school music class of Pakila, graduated gymnasium and passed Finnish matriculation examination from Käpylän iltaoppikoulu in 1997. He has studied music and music technology in the Pop & Jazz Conservatoire of Helsinki with instrument studies of piano, drums and bass alongside studies in Sibelius Academy.

Family

His father is Raimo Sirkiä, a Finnish operatic tenor who sang mainly in Germany and was principal tenor at the Finnish National Opera, former artistic director of the Savonlinna Opera Festival (2002–2007) and recipient of the Order of the Lion of Finland – Pro Finlandia Medal. He is a descendant of Bestuzhev-Ryumin Russian nobility family branch and his mother a descendant of Malmberg, Finnish Lutheran priestly lineage from Vaasa. His sister Katja is a theatre and musical actress.[2]

Career

As an active producer of electronic music he has, not including his numerous side projects, released 9 albums with projects such as Headphonics, Highpersonic Whomen, Haltya, PeLinPaLa, Justin Space and has over 50 published releases since his first release in 1998. He is considered a pioneer of Finnish contemporary electronic music and one of Finland's most internationally experienced electronic music producers/DJ's today. He has performed a great number of gigs around the globe during his career and his DJ & Live performances have been heard in countries such as Finland, Russian Federation, US, Brazil, Israel, Netherlands, Denmark, Turkey, Cuba, Ukraine, Romania, Germany, Lithuania, Portugal, Australia & Japan. Alongside of performing at electronic music events, he has also presented his music at art exhibitions in Finland and produced musical content for Finnish radio, art performances, websites, theatre plays & TV commercials. After his first international releases, he has shared the stage with many well-known acts & DJ's world wide and his works have achieved the support of such names as the Chief Conductor Emeritus of Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and professor of conducting at the Sibelius Academy maestro Leif Segerstam, Annie Nightingale at BBC Radio 1, Finnish contemporary opera composer Olli Kortekangas & conductor/professor Markus Lehtinen.

He has released his works on various compilations from international labels including Ministry of Sound Records, Twisted Records, Exogenic Music Group, Novatekk, Bombtraxx, Com.pact records, MPDQX label group, Digital Structures, Cymbidium, Planetaria Recordings, U.S.T.A & Millenium among others. His collaboration album "Push the Limit" got an outstanding 5/5 stars in DJ Magazine supported with comments such as : "This has to be one of the best albums I've heard for a very long time".
