Tortoise Beats Hare is a 1941 Merrie Melodies animated short directed by Tex Avery. The short stars Bugs Bunny and, in his first appearance, Cecil Turtle.

Plot

Bugs Bunny bets Cecil Turtle ten dollars that he can beat him in a race. Cecil accepts and calls in his cousin Chester and eight others, all of whom look and sound like Cecil, and arranges for them to double as him at significant points along the track while he himself crosses the finishing line ahead of Bugs and claims the money.

The plot is an adaption of Mr. Rabbit Finds His Match at Last, by Uncle Remus.[1]
