Trailer Park Sex is a German post-hardcore band from St. Pauli, Hamburg, Germany, formed in 2009. The band name is a reference to the song "Trailer Park Jesus" by Glassjaw. The band are known for their DIY ethic.
History
Trailer Park Sex was formed by Lea Swetlana and Juan Gracia in May 2009. In March 2010 their debut-EP "Now Or Fucking Never" was tracked (completely as a duo) at Daily Hero Studios Berlin. Marc Wüstenhagen (War From A Harlots Mouth) was the recording and mixing engineer. The mastering was done by Alex Kloos at TimeTools Hannover. The first single featured "Got No Candy" and was followed by "Fucking Nazis In A Beautiful Budapest", both songs with their own videoclips. The EP has been very well received by the German music press.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] The lengthy „Now Or Fucking Never Tour“ featured the band on stages in Poland, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany, with concerts held together with fellow Band Andralls (Brasil), or Sodom and Deadlock.[10][11][12][13] Two years after the release of "Now Or Fucking Never" and after bass player Roman Karius joined the band as a permanent member in 2011, Trailer Park Sex released their first Long Player "Struggle", which once again was mixed by Marc Wüstenhagen (meanwhile at MAW Recordings, Berlin)[14] and mastered by Alex Kloos at TimeTools Studios Hannover. The first single "Requiem For The Bloodless" was released as a teaser prior to the album release and was followed later by "We've Got Business(Animal Liberation Anthem)" and "Ain't No Life", each release was accompanied by a videoclip. The LP received positive critics by a more international and broader audience than their Ep did, gathering attention from all over Europe and America.[15][16][17][18] The completely self-booked "Strugglin' The Americas Tour" featured the band on stages in USA, Canada, Argentina and Uruguay. This was the first TPS tour outside Europe.[19][20] In January 2014 TPS released "Transatlantic", a Split-EP with Radical from Montevideo, Uruguay. The band said in interviews that the songs featured in that record were written while the imprisonment of Lamb of God's singer Randy Blythe in Prague and later released as a form to celebrate the not-guilty verdict delivered in his favor.[21] The band's long time producer Marc Wüstenhagen mixed and mastered the whole EP as well as he contributed guitar and bass parts for it.
Currently the band is working on their next album, which is expected to feature some of the
hardest, darkest as well as most melodic and fragile TPS compositions to date.
Influences
Trailer Park Sex is known for having a distinct musical style consisting in a blend of many different genres. While the first release focussed strongly on styles like Mathcore, Metalcore, and Jazz (Dillinger Escape Plan, War From A Harlots Mouth, The Chariot), their sound slowly transformed including more touches of Groove Metal, Alternative Metal and Djent. (Sepultura, Periphery, Deftones). Throughout their career, TPS has sported a big Alternative influence, much of which is apparent in the band's softer moments. Comparisons of Gracia's clean voice with Faith No More's Mike Pattons are oftentimes part of the reviews and descriptions of the TPS' overall sound.
The band's Facebook page states:
We are not affiliated to any Kind of trendy shit,we don´t Play a specific genre of Music and we are not trying to be cool for you.
On the other Hand we stand against racism, fascism and 100% for animal rights and equality.
DIY and Activism
In interviews as well as in their lyrics and videos, TPS emphasizes on their political and social critical point of view, as well as on their fight against racism, fascism, exploitation and social violence. Animal rights play a big role in the band's lyrics and motives.[24][25][26][27][28][29] Since its foundation the band is completely self-managed, as well in artistical (artwork, videoproduction, merchandise) as in business terms (booking, promotion). TPS can be counted to one of the most accomplished bands of the German DIY scene.[25][26]
