Curtis Richard "Trey" Haley (born June 21, 1990) is an American minor league baseball pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.
Career
Haley committed to attend Rice University, where he intended to play college baseball for the Rice Owls baseball team. The Cleveland Indians drafted Haley in the second round, with the 76th overall selection, of the 2008 MLB Draft.[1][2] He signed with Cleveland, rather than attend college. Haley pitched for the Lake County Captains of the Class A Midwest League in 2009 and 2010, but struggled with his command, as he issued too many walks.[1]
In 2011, the Indians transitioned Haley from starting pitcher to relief pitcher. He played for Lake County and the Kinston Indians of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League, but was sidelined in June and July by a groin injury. In 2012, he pitched for the Carolina Mudcats of Carolina League and the Akron Aeros of the Class AA Eastern League, but missed time due to a groin injury and a sports hernia.[1] They added him to their 40-man roster after the 2012 season.[2] Haley pitched with Akron in 2013, and was designated for assignment by the Indians after the season to make room on the roster for John Axford.[3] He elected free agency on November 6, 2015.[4]
On January 7, 2016, the Pittsburgh Pirates signed Haley to a major league contract.[5]
