The Two Brothers Brewing Company is a microbrewery founded in 1996 in the western Chicago suburb of Warrenville, Illinois. The brewery produces a range of beers for retail sale, and also sells homebrewing supplies. The owners operate their own beer distribution company, Windy City Distribution.

Two Brothers expanded their business to include small batch coffee roasting in December 2012.[2]

History

The company was founded in 1996 by brothers Jim and Jason Ebel,[3][4] who run the Brewer's Coop homebrew supply store and Tap House restaurant at the Warrenville site. Windy City Distribution, their distribution company,[5] delivers to bars in the Illinois and Wisconsin area.

Products

The company produces a range of beers, including Domaine DuPage, a 5.9% abv Bière de Garde style beer,[6][7] named after DuPage County; Prairie Path Ale, an American blonde ale named after the Illinois Prairie Path; The Bitter End an American pale ale; and Ebel's Weiss[8] a hefeweizen which established the company's reputation.[9]

They also have four seasonally produced beers: Monarch Wit beer for the brewery's March anniversary; Dog Days Dortmunder Export lager in the summer;[9] Heavy Handed IPA in the Fall; and Northwind Imperial stout for the winter. The Northwind Imperial stout was known as Iditarod prior to threats of legal action by the Iditarod race organizers.

They have also been producing a line of artisan beers. The first was Bare Tree Weiss Wine, a strong wheat ale.[9] Other offerings have included Hop Juice Double IPA,[10][11] Incinerator Blonde Dopplebock, Cane and Ebel Rye beer, and Philosopher's Stone Black Saison.[12]

In 2010, they released Oktoberfest beer "Atom Smasher", named after the largest particle accelerator laboratory in US Fermilab, right next to their brewery.

Festivals

On 26 March 2007, Two Brothers Brewing celebrated its 10th anniversary at Charlie's Ale House in Wheaton, Illinois with the tapping of "Project Opus 10", a lambic-style sour ale.[13]

On 6 June 2009, Two Brothers Brewing celebrated the 2009 release of its Hop Juice Double IPA with a festival held at the brewery, called "For the Love of Hops". The festival featured special beers from craft breweries across the US, including Surly Brewing Company, Dogfish Head Brewery, Stone Brewing Company, Allagash Brewing Company, and Ska Brewing.[14]

Purchase of America's Historical Roundhouse

On Tuesday May 2, 2011 Two Brother's Brewing Company announced via Facebook and Twitter that they had acquired America's Historical Roundhouse in Aurora Illinois.[15]
