Two Curious Puppies are two Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies characters. The two dogs have no names and are not one of the well-known Looney Tunes characters. They first appeared in Dog Gone Modern in 1939, closely followed by Prest-O Change-O and The Curious Puppy. They then appeared in Stage Fright (1940), Snow Time for Comedy (1941), Dog Tired (1942). Their final appearance was a cameo in Looney Tunes: Back in Action.

Appearance

The first curious puppy is a golden boxer with brown ears. The second is a cocker spaniel, white with black patches and a docked tail. The boxer is about twice the size of the cocker spaniel. While they usually walk on all fours, they sometimes use their forelegs as arms for comedic effect. Although they don't speak, vocals such as laughter are provided by Mel Blanc.[1]

History

The Two Curious Puppies first appeared in the short Dog Gone Modern on January 14, 1939. The dogs walk into a house with a sign reading "Model Home Open for Inspection - Visitors Welcome Come In". They enter the model home, which is extremely futuristic for the time period. After an introduction from a robot, they begin exploring the house. The cocker spaniel finds a dog bone dispenser that is promptly swept away by a robot; the puppy eventually regains control of the bone, but it is taken away by the boxer. From then on, almost all of the plots involving the puppies involve chasing a bone; in Stage Fright they were in a vaudeville theater, in Snow Time for Comedy a winter scene, and in Dog Tired at the city zoo.

In Prest-O Change-O, their second cartoon, they are pursued by a dog catcher and must hide in a house that is owned by the magician Sham Fu and his pet rabbit, a prototype Bugs Bunny. All kinds of magic tricks are played on the two puppies until the boxer punches the rabbit in the face. In The Curious Puppy, the cocker spaniel sneaks into a closed amusement park and the boxer, acting as a watchdog, chases the cocker spaniel through the park. They made a brief cameo appearance in Looney Tunes: Back in Action.
