Yugoslavia were placed under sanctions on 30 May 1992 by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 757 after the outbreak of the Yugoslavian Civil War.[1] FIFA therefore immediately suspended the Yugoslav football team from competitive football, meaning they could not participate in the final tournament. Group runners-up Denmark were invited to take their place in the finals.
