Uecomm is a SingTel Optus Group company with its headquarters in Melbourne, Australia. The parent company SingTel Optus Pty Limited is the second largest telecommunications company in Australia, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Telecommunications (ASX: SGT).

United Energy Ltd (an electricity and gas retailer in Melbourne) formed its United Energy Telecommunications (UET) division in 1997. UET established fibre networks in metropolitan Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, with a focus on providing connectivity to corporates and Internet Service Providers.

UET changed its name in 1999 to Uecomm and was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX: UEC) in 2000 as Uecomm Ltd, with United Energy holding 66% of the new organisation.

In 2003 United Energy was taken over by AMP Ltd and Alinta Ltd, with United Energy’s shareholding in Uecomm Ltd passing to Alinta.

Optus announced in August 2004 it had successfully purchased all shares in Uecomm via an off-market takeover and Uecomm Ltd. was subsequently delisted from the ASX.[1]

Today Uecomm is owned by Optus Networks Pty Ltd and is a stand-alone business unit providing high bandwidth data and voice networks to medium and large enterprises.
