Public Joint Stock Company “UkrGasVydobuvannya” (UGV) is the largest Ukrainian gas company. It is a vertically integrated company with a complete production cycle: exploration of gas and gas condensate reserves, field development, transportation, gas processing and condensate and oil refining and distribution.
The Company produces 75% of total gas production in Ukraine. As of April 2016 the number of employees was c. 21 thousand. UGV is one of the major taxpayers in Ukraine (taxes paid in 2015 account for c. 5% of Ukraine’s budget).
History
UGV was founded in 1998 by a merger of gas extracting divisions of SC “UkrGasProm” and some other Ukrainian gas extraction companies. UGV is a subsidiary of a state-owned company Naftogas of Ukraine.
Company Activities
UVG – is the largest gas and gas condensate extraction company in Ukraine. The company produced 14.5 bcm of gas in 2015, which accounts for 75% of total gas production in Ukraine. UGV also produced more than 20% of oil and condensate in Ukraine. In April 2016 it launched production of Euro 4 and higher standards gasoline (according to European emission standards classification). During the first quarter of 2016 the Company has reached 44.5 thousand meters in exploration drilling.

Areas of extraction include Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Donetsk, Luhansk, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattya and Volyn regions. Exploration activities are held in Dniprovsko-Donetska cavity and Karpaty region.
2P reserves of UGV are c. 270 bcm according to Ryder Scott Company.
UGV Transformation
Newly appointed management of UGV (appointed in 2015 as a result of an open selection process initiated by the government), has started the process of Company transformation. Its focus is Strategy 20/20: increase of natural gas production to 20 bcm in 2020. The strategy also focuses on improving economic efficiency of Company’s assets, optimization of internal functions, fight against corruption and deregulation.
UVG is one of the leaders on the newly established online procurement platform ProZorro (by volumes of goods and services) – one of the measures to fight corruption.
