Umang Jain (born January 8, 1995) is an Indian model and actress, known for appearing in Love Breakups Zindagi as Ritu. She played one of the major roles (Nina) in the POGO TV serial Sunaina. She has also appeared in Teri Meri Love Stories as Kareena along with Rahul Sharma and in more than 200+ TV commercials, Cadbury, Oral-B, Vicks, Airtel, MTS, Pond's, Dabur Aamla, Good Day Cookies, Maggi, Whisper Choice, Hair N Care, Dominos, SBI, Mederma, Parachute Advanced Jasmine Hair Oil and so on. She shot for two finite series "Ek Tha Chander Ek Thi Sudha" and "Maharakshak: Devi". She was last seen essaying the role of Tara opposite Rohan Mehra who play Naksh in Star Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai[1] that is ranked as among the top shows of the channel.

Career

Umang’s fascinating career started at a very young age, when she was featured in a weekly Indian show, Justujoo on Zee TV in 2002 and in 2006, she appeared in Ssshhhh…Phir Koi Hai, a Hindi suspense-thriller on STAR One. However, her big break on small screen came later on in 2008, through a teen sitcom, Sunaina, which was aired on POGO channel. The show garnered the talented Umang many accolades from the viewers.

Coming to her feats in advertisement world, Umang has ruled the turf by large starting with brands like BSA Ladybird and Airtel to the most recent Pizza Hut and Vicks ads. A run through of her commercials manifests the journey this damsel has set for herself. Umang has acted in nearly 80 television commercials, endorsing brands like Pond’s Facewash, MTS, Sony Handycam, Hair N Care, Max New York Life, SBI, Tata Docomo, Moserbaer, Medimix Soap, Castrol, Maggi, Britannia Good Day, ITC Classmate Notebooks, Red Label, Boroline Suthol, Nihar – Shanti Amla, Dabur, Domino’s, L.G., Britannia NutriChoice Multigrain Thins, Himalaya Facewash, Kumarika Hair Oil, Mederma, Nokia Lumia 800, Britannia Bourbon Cappuccino, Videocon d2h HD, Cadbury, KOPIKO, Hindalco, Parachute Advanced Jasmine Hair Oil, Whisper, Zapak and the list goes on and on. She has also done several print ads (featured pic: Lawrence & Mayo) and promos for media channels like NDTV and MTV.[2]

Umang’s charm and talent wasn’t just limited to the small screen; she forayed into the Hindi film industry with Love Breakups Zindagi[3] (October 2011), in which she acted alongside acclaimed stars (divas) – Dia Mirza, Auritra Ghosh, Tisca Chopra and Pallavi Sharda! Her second movie, Shakal Pe Mat Ja, a comedy drama released a month later. Although these two movies couldn’t make a lasting mark, Umang wasn’t bogged down by it, as she bagged a Malayalam thriller, Aaru Sundarimaarude Katha (2013), a women-centric movie. She played an aspiring tennis player, which apparently is her favorite sport.

After leaving her mark in Maharakshak: Devi[4] and Ek Tha Chander Ek Thi Sudha,[5] Umang is now seen in a new avatar as Tara in the long-running show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.[6] About her character, Umang said, "I play Tara in the show. She is a hockey player, who is slightly rough on the edges as she has been raised in a family of men but she is a soft and sweet person inside. She always stands up for what is right."[7]

Personal life

A daily reports that the on-screen chemistry of young actors Rohan Mehra and Umang Jain, who play 'Naksh Singhania' and 'Tara Shekhawat' in the show 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai', has apparently spilled over in their real lives too. The two actors are a couple in real life and their off-screen romance has everyone talking. A source told the daily that at a party held lately, Rohan and Umang walked in hand-in-hand and were seen sharing a lot of time together. They even departed together. Umang and Rohan, however, deny any such development. Umang said, "We are not dating yet. It's too early. We like each other and are great co-actors. We are shooting together for 12 hours, so where is the time to party beyond work hours? We did attend a bash together recently but that's a one-off thing. I don't like to party alone so Rohan accompanied me. He is a great, hassle-free guy." Rohan added, "There's nothing like that at all. We are just friends."[8]
