Dr. Umar Sulayman 'Abd-Allaah al-Ashqar (عمر بن سليمان الأشقر) was a professor in the Faculty of Islamic Law at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan, who was born in 1940 and died on August 10, 2012. He is not to be confused with Dr. Muḥammad Sulaymān Ashqar.
Biography
Ashqar was a professor in the Faculty of Islamic Law at the University of Jordan. He was previously the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Law at Zarqa Private University, also in Jordan.
Ashqar was born in Nablus in 1940. His family later moved to Madina, Saudi Arabia and he attended the Islamic University of Madinah, where he completed his bachelor’s degree becoming one of the first graduates. He received his master’s and doctorate degrees from Al-Azhar University in Cairo and was a student of scholars such as Ibn Baz and Al-Albani. Ashqar was the author of numerous books on Islam, including the Islamic Creed Series. He died in August 2012.[1]
Views
Ashqar was known for his support of the Muslim Brotherhood. He also claimed that it is obligatory for the Muslim world to support the Second Intifada.[2]
