Marshall-University High School was a public 7-12 high school in Minneapolis, Minnesota.[1] The school had selective admissions, and attendance size was kept low. Most of the students were children of University of Minnesota professors.[1]
History
The school was created as University High School by the University of Minnesota Board of Regents in 1908 as a laboratory school.[1] That building was located at 15th Ave. SE and was demolished in 2013 after serving as commercial office space for a number of years. In September 1968, University High School merged with Marshall High School and became part of Minneapolis Public Schools in an attempt to diversify the student body.[1] Minneapolis Public Schools closed Marshall-U in 1982 due to budget constraints, and the building is now used by the Dinkytown Technical Center.
Athletics
University High School was a founding member of the Lake Conference in 1932. They won a conference football title in 1930.[2] When the school merged with Marshall, the combined school used the Cardinals nickname adopted from Marshall.[2] Marshall-U won a Class A Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) state boys basketball title in 1976.[3]
