The University of Birjand (Persian: دانشگاه بیرجند) is a university in Birjand, Iran. It was established in 1975.

History

The University of Birjand was established in 1975 as an institute of higher education after the ratification of the 102nd session of the Council for Expansion of Higher Education in the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology. It is the largest research university in eastern Iran. UB launched its academic endeavors in the Faculty of Sciences within three departments of mathematics, physics and chemistry.

In 1991, the Higher Education Institute was upgraded and renamed as the University of Birjand. After the Islamic Revolution, the university collaborated with the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology for running the higher education programs in accordance with the principles set by the Cultural Revolution Committee for Universities.

Programmes

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D programs to 13000 students in 145 disciplines. Three hundred academics conducting programs in six engineering departments, five agricultural departments, eight humanities departments, five science departments, two art departments and seven research centers, all of which are structured in twelve faculties within seven campuses. There is an inter-university collaboration program which aims at scientific cooperation at an international level.
