Utkarsh Verma

Utkarsh Verma (born 1 November 1985) is an Indian politician who has been Member of Uttar Pradesh legislative Assembly since 2010, representing Lakhimpur Sadar. A member of Samajwadi Party, he won his first Assembly election at the age of just 25, and became 2010 India's youngest MLA.[1]

Early Life

Utkarsh Verma was born to farmer Dhirendra Kumar Verma and Kusum Verma on 1 November 1985 in Lakhimpur Kheri district. He studied at St. Don Bosco's College, Lakhimpur and subsequently was awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) majoring in Marketing and International Business while studying at the ITS Institute of Management (ITS-IM) of Greater-Noida, India.[2]

Political career

Utkarsh Verma worked in the corporate communication wing of a telecom company. His grandfather Kaushal Kishore,medical doctor and three-time SP MLA from Lakhimpur Sadar, fell critically ill and Uttkarsh quit his job and returned immediately.[1] His grandfather died and his father also was unwell. In November 2010, he filed for the nomination to replace his grandfather at age 25.

Utkarsh Verma was elected to the Vidhansabha from Lakhimpur Sadar in a by-election of 2010 and retained his seat in 2012. HIs first campaigned achieved a margin of 17589 and in 2012 a margin of 37,993.[3]
