V. Balakumaran [1] used to be one of the two top leaders of Eelam Revolutionary Organisation of Students (EROS).

Balakumar used to work in a bank, this made it easy for groups such as LTTE and PLOTE to rob the bank as Balakumar was in favour of Tamil Eelam

In 1990 he and large portion of EROS members left the organization and joined the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). He is believed to be active in LTTE's political division.

A Tamil Tigers senior leader Balakumaran is reported to have been seriously wounded in an assault by soldiers that had pinned the Tamil rebels down in a small patch of jungle in northeastern Sri Lanka. On January 29, 2009 it was reported that Balakumaran was critically wounded.
