VIEW Conference

VIEW Conference is a computer graphics event in Italy and is held yearly in Turin, between October and November. Topics represented at the event include interactive techniques, digital cinema, 3D animation, gaming and VFX.

This cultural event spans several days and includes sessions open to the public. The conference includes several international speakers from various sectors within the computer graphics field who present their work to the attendees as well as Master Classes and theory lessons taught by experts.

History

Beginning in 2000 as Virtuality Conference, the conference changed its name during its eighth edition, in 2007, becoming VIEW: Virtual Interactive Emerging World. The content of the conference has changed and evolved over the years as well. While still focusing on "virtual reality", the VIEW Conference[1] now includes emerging digital technology and applications including animation, special effects, virtual architecture, and videogames.

"Virtual Reality is an alternate world filled with computer-generated images that respond to human movements. These simulated environments are usually visited with the aid of an expensive data suit which features stereophonic video goggles and fiber-optic data gloves."[2]

"VIEW Conference has contributed over these years to the development and the embedding of a network of public and private entities involved in digital technology and multimedia, which now represents a significant and strategic portion of the local economic development."[3]

In 2005 the VIEW Conference established the "VIEW Award", an international award for 3D animated and VFX short films, targeted to students, artists and filmmakers. In 2012 VIEW announces a new contest, the VIEW Social Contest, aimed at involving visual artists, designers and computer graphics lovers with works using 2D/3D animation and/or VFX focusing on themes of social relevance.

The VIEW Award

The VIEW Award, an international award for 3D animated and VFX short films, focusing on emerging talents in animation and visual effects, accepts entries from young artists around the globe (80 entries in 2005, over 150 in 2006, and more than 190 in 2007). Winners are selected by an international jury composed of experts in the different disciplines of the contest and by teachers and school directors from animation schools in Europe and North America.
