VITA Zahnfabrik H. Rauter GmbH & Co. KG (abbreviated as “VITA”) is a German family-run dental technology company with a long history that offers a wide range of products and systems for both dental practices and dental laboratories. The name VITA (from the Latin term vita meaning “life”) reflects the company's objective of creating products that are as natural and “lifelike” in appearance as natural dentition itself.

Since its foundation in 1924 in Essen, Germany, VITA Zahnfabrik H. Rauter GmbH & Co. KG has been an independent, family-run company. Its headquarters are now located in Bad Säckingen, Germany, with sales partners or VITA's own sales agencies supplying dentists and dental technicians in over 150 countries with materials and products directly from Bad Säckingen.

Products and spheres of competence

VITA leads the way internationally in dental materials related to tooth shading, as well as in dental ceramics and acrylic teeth. In addition to a variety of dental materials, VITA also develops and sells shade-taking devices and furnaces for dental ceramics.

VITA is considered a pioneer in the field of dentistry.[1] VMK® (VITA Metal Ceramics), now an internationally recognized brand, was launched in 1962 and was the first metal-ceramic veneering system to be developed in Europe.[2][3] The introduction of VITABLOCS in 1986 and of VITA In-Ceram in 1993 provided the breakthrough in the fabrication of all-ceramic dental restorations using CAD/CAM technology. Since then, more than 30 million restorations have been fabricated worldwide using VITA all-ceramics. Today, VITA offers a wide range of materials for almost any indication or technique. In addition to different high-performance ceramics, this also includes composite acrylic materials as well as press ceramics that support a variety of applications. The continued refinement of prosthetic teeth since the foundation of the company is another outstanding achievement.

The VITA SYSTEM 3D-MASTER launched in 1998 is considered the most reliable shade determination system in the world as well as dentistry's gold standard. It enables flawless collaboration between dentists and dental technicians and offers complete coverage of the entire tooth color space. All VITA materials are perfectly tailored to one another and available for the entire spectrum of dental and dental technology applications. Using VITA shade guides and digital shade-taking devices, all tooth shades can be accurately determined to allow for reliable subsequent reproduction. Determination of the tooth shade was further simplified with the introduction of VITA Easyshade in 2008, allowing dentists to reliably determine and verify all tooth shades in a matter of seconds using digital technology.

VITA materials form part of an integrated system and are available in all natural tooth shades. This is also true of all-ceramics, metal ceramics and acrylics, making VITA a one-stop shop for all dental materials and for all tooth shades.

1983: Introduction of the first uniform shade standard, Vitapan classical A1–D4®.

1998: Introduction of VITA SYSTEM 3D-MASTER®, allowing tooth shades to be systematically determined and reproduced for the first time.

2001: Introduction of VITA PHYSIODENS® acrylic teeth, which offer convincingly natural characteristics.

2002: Introduction of VITA In-Ceram YZ pre-sintered zirconium dioxide blanks for the fabrication of all-ceramic crowns and bridges.

2003: Introduction of the VITA VM veneering concept for ceramics and acrylics.

2008: Introduction of the VITA Linearguide 3D-MASTER® and VITA Easyshade® Compact for simplified, unique tooth shade determination in accordance with VITA SYSTEM 3D-MASTER®.

2015: Introduction of VITAVM®LC flow materials – the low-viscous consistency for detailed layering in the cervical and incisal areas.

2015: Introduction of VITA Easyshade® V – the connection of digital tooth shade determination with mobile smartphone application.

2015: Introduction of VITA IMPLANT SOLUTIONS – VITA ENAMIC® IS, VITA CAD-Temp® IS and VITA SUPRINITY® IS for implant-supported restorations.


Research and development

VITA operates its own research and development center in Bad Säckingen. VITA also collaborates throughout the world with universities and teaching institutions, dentists and dental technicians, and promotes international research excellence in dentistry.[4][5]

Training centers and continuing education programs

VITA operates its own training and educational centers at 27 locations in Germany and Austria and offers a wide range of courses and continuing education options for dentists, practice employees and dental technicians. Supplementary onsite courses and workshops in dental practices and dental laboratories are also available.
