Vaðlaheiðargöng is a tunnel under construction in Iceland, located in Northeastern Region along Route 1, just east of Akureyri. It will have a length of 7,400 m (24,278 ft),[1][2][3] and replace a 21 km section of route 1 including the Víkurskard pass. The tunnel is planned to open in 2016.
