Varakkal Abdul Rahman Mullokoya Thangal (Arabic:سيّدعبد الرحمن وركل ملّ كوي, Malayalam: സയ്യിദ് അബ്ദുറഹ്മാന് വരക്കല് മുല്ലക്കോയ തങ്ങള്(, the founder of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama [1]( Islamic organization in Kerala, India), was the spiritual leader and religious scholar.
Early life
He was the successor of Sayyid Baalavi Muhammed Ali Hamid Thangal, who came from Hazarmouth, Yemen for the Islamic missionary. He was born in Putiyangadi, Kozhikode district and was blessed with religious background. His home was the last resort for the horde of people from the various sector of the society. He played a vital role in the urbanization of Putiyangadi and later it developed to multi bazar, which accessed even by the foreigners.
Formation of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama
After 1921s, the new groups based on novelty emerged in society and he realized the hard need of new organization to counter anti-Sunni organizations. After the invitation from Pangil Ahmed Kutty Musliyar, he participated in the meeting held Kozhikode, Kuttichira Valiya Juma Masjid, in which PK Muhammed Meeran Musliyar was elected as president and Paron Hussain Shahib as secretary. After extending this idea, new meeting was held at Kozhikode hall, in which Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama was born and Varakkal Mullokoya Thangal was elected as president. He occupied this position till his demise[2][3]
Death
He died in 1932 and buried in Kozhikode.
