Variations on a Theme is David Thomas' second solo studio album. Like its predecessor The Sound of the Sand, Variations on a Theme features prominent guitar work from Richard Thompson. Its only CD release has been on the 'Monster' box set, where it appears in remixed form with a slightly different running order.
