History

The barracks were established during the First World War for explosives from Woolwich Arsenal.[1] By the end of the War 1,900 troops were based there.[1] Then during the Second World War elements of the Royal Berkshire Regiment were based at the barracks.[2] The ordnance depot closed in 1961 when operations were moved to Bicester.[3] Since 1982 the site, now known as Vauxhall Barracks, has been the home of 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment RLC.[4]
