VECA Airlines (Vuelos Economicos de Centro America) is a Salvadoran airline owned by Sociedad Hasgar S.A. de C.V.[1] and is El Salvador's flag carrier established in early 2014 in San Salvador. The main airline hub is located in San Salvador at Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport.By the end of 2014, Alba Petroleos de El Salvador bought all outstanding shares of Sociedad Hasgar S.A. de C.V..

History

The airline started operations on 28 November 2014 with regional services to major cities in Central America (San José, Panama City and Guatemala City). VECA started its services with two Airbus A319s.

VECA intends to bring competition into the Central American market following the recent merger of Avianca and TACA. Several former TACA Airlines employees now work at VECA Airlines, after the absorption of TACA by the Colombian flag carrier.

Among the low-cost airline plans, it is intended to offer flights to North America and South America on short notice. Its current CEO has been quoted in Merida, Mexico, as saying that by the end of 2015 there will be flights directly from Merida and Cancun to San Salvador.
