Vehicle miles of travel or vehicle miles traveled (VMT) is defined by the U.S. government as a measurement of miles traveled by vehicles within a specified region for a specified time period.[1]

The United States Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) compiles monthly and yearly VMT statistics nationally and by state.[2]
