Vicar General for Vatican City

The Vicar General for Vatican City, more formally the Vicar General of His Holiness for Vatican City,[1] is the vicar general for the part of the Diocese of Rome that lies within Vatican City. He is appointed by the Pope.

Description

As vicar general, he is the highest official for the ecclesiastical administration, spiritual and material, of the area entrusted to him. Since this area has very few residents, his responsibility concerns primarily the pilgrims who visit the Vatican.

The parallel responsibility for the main part of the Diocese of Rome is entrusted to the Vicar General of His Holiness.
