Victor O'Connor

Victor George O'Connor (21 December 1918 in Melbourne 8 September 2010 in Melbourne) was an Australian artist, a social realist painter of genre and landscapes.

Biography

O'Connor graduated in law from University of Melbourne and served with the Army during the Second World War. In 1939 he studied art at the George Bell School, Melbourne for a time but was mostly self-taught as an artist.

He was vice-president of the Contemporary Art Society of Victoria in the early 1940s. He painted extensively in UK and Europe 1973 - 1974.[1]


His second wife Vera died in 2004. Towards the end of his life he was unable to paint due to arthritis and failing eyesight.[1]
