Vidyavati

Vidyavati, former Vice-Chancellor, Kakatiya University, Warangal, Telangana, India was born on September 15, 1939, in Goud community. She is President of Phycological Society of India.

Early Life and Education

She did schooling from Bansilal Balika Vidyalaya, Begum Bazaar, in Hindi medium, and Marathi as second language, and passed HSC in the year 1955. In 1957, She did her Intermediate with English medium at Koti Women’s College. In 1959, She passed B.SC in first division from the same college with Botany, Zoology and Chemistry. In 1961, for post-graduation in M.Sc Botany, She joined the Department of Botany of Osmania University, and passed in first division.

She was awarded Ph.D for her thesis on ‘Experimental and Cytological Studies on Certain Desmids’ from Osmania University in the year 1967 under the able guidance of Prof. Jafar Nizam and Prof. M.R. Saxena.

As most of the literature was in German, She enrolled for German classes for a period of three years and passed Senior and Junior Diploma in German Language at Arts College, Osmania University, from 1963 - 65.

Her area of specialization is Hydrobiology, Phycology, Cytology and Ultrastructure Ecology.
