Vijay Babu (Malayalam: വിജയ്‌ ബാബു) is a Malayalam film actor and producer.[2]

He is the co-founder, along with actress Sandra Thomas, of film production company Friday Film House.[3]

Early life and family

Vijay started his media career at STAR India in Mumbai. In 2002, he was selected as the “Best Employee” of STAR TV. Later in the same year, he quit his job to venture as an entrepreneur in Dubai. After a few years of successful venture in entrepreneurship, he joined as the COO of Asianet Sitara TV in Hyderabad. In 2009, Vijay came back to Kerala as the Vice President of Surya TV.

Career history

In 2013, he had quit his media career and joined Malayalam film industry as an actor and producer.[4]

Babu is the co-founder and CEO of Friday Film House, a Kerala-based film production company which he owns along with his film industry colleague and friend Sandra Thomas. Friday Film house won 7 of the Kerala state film awards in various fields in 2014. Though the company is established after the success of film Friday, hence the movie is considered as the first production venture of Friday Film House.[5]

Vijay is best known for the roles in Philips and the Monkey Pen and Nee-Na; and also as the producer of Philips and the Monkey Pen and Peruchazhi. The role in Aadu as inspector Sarbath Shemeer was also a huge hit in its comical relief factor, though some noted the waxy-stiff acting didn't quite hit where it required. But his ability in picking up good films based on script for production as well as career development was well noted through this film.

Critical reception

The role of Vinay Paniker a.k.a VP[6] [7] in the film Nee-Na gets appreciation from masses as well as critics.

Vijay Babu as being a previous management professional was able to handle the role with ease, which was appreciated by the critics and was commended for his natural slipping into his former self in a story centered manner of a caring Boss, a loving husband, a loving father, a caring friend and as a sensitive person.
