Viktor Vasylovych Postol (Ukrainian: Віктор Васильович Постол; born 16 January 1984) is a Ukrainian professional boxer and the current WBC super lightweight champion.

Professional career

Early career

Postol's first significant title fight came in December 2011 against Karen Tevosyan for the vacant WBC Silver International light welterweight title. Postol managed to win via unanimous decision to claim the belt.[1] He then successfully defended it against Yvan Mendy[2] and DeMarcus Corley.[3] After vacating the belt, Postol met in the ring with American Hank Lundy for the vacant WBC International light welterweight title and achieved a victory.[4] Before vacating the belt, Postol had managed to retain it against Ignacio Mendoza.

Rising up the ranks

In May 2014, Postol defeated Turkish boxer Selçuk Aydın in WBC title eliminator and earned a mandatory title shot against champion Danny García.[5]

WBC light welterweight champion

Postol vs. Matthysse

Viktor Postol knocked out Lucas Matthysse in the 10th round for the vacant WBC light welterweight title at StubHub Center in Carson, CA on October 3, 2015.[6]

Postol vs. Crawford

On May 3, 2016 it was finally confirmed that Postol and Terence Crawford had officially signed a contract for the highly-anticipated super-lightweight unification fight on July 23 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Crawford, WBO champion, will meet WBC belt holder Postol on HBO pay-per-view in America, the first PPV fight for either man. Postol, who became the division leader last year when he stopped Lucas Matthysse in 10 rounds to claim the vacant WBC bauble while Crawford, widely considered one of the best fighters on the planet, will be making the third defence of his title.[7] Both fighters will enter the ring with a matched record of 28 wins, no losses. Also both men will be entering MGM Grand Garden Arena for the first time in their respective careers.
