Virdi (Ramgarhia clan)

Virdi (also spelled as Virdee, Birdi or Birdee) is a surname of the Jatt and Ramgarhia tribe that inhabits the Delhi, Punjab region of India. They are locally known as Tarkhan (Carpenter) because they are master of wood work in Punjab.

History

Before establishment of Sikh Misls they are generally known as Tarkhan. But when Misls are established in Punjab most of Tarkhan's are gathered under the flag of Jassa Singh Ramgarhia, the leader of Ramgarhia Misl, which is also a Tarkhan. After that all Tarkhan's Including Virdi's are known as Ramgarhia's.
