Vyacheslav Vasilyevich Zahorodnyuk (Ukrainian: В'ячеслав Загороднюк, born 11 August 1972) is a Ukrainian former competitive figure skater. He represented the USSR until its dissolution and then represented Ukraine. He is the 1994 World bronze medalist, 1996 European champion, and 1989 World Junior champion.

Career

Zagorodniuk was initially coached by Galina Zmievskaya and later worked with Valentin Nikolaev.[1] Zagorodniuk won the 1989 World Junior Championships.[2] As a senior, he went on to win bronze at the 1994 World Championships and gold at the 1996 European Championships. After retiring from competition in April 1998, Zagorodniuk participated in some film and TV productions, including The Christmas Angel: A Story on Ice and worked as a coach in Richmond, Virginia. In 2011, he began coaching in Kiev.[1]

Personal life

Zagorodniuk married ice dancer Olga Mudrak in 1994.[3] They have a son, Maxim (born circa 2006), and daughter, Alina (born in February 2009).[1] Maxim currently does hockey and Alina does ice skating.
