WKIC (97.9 FM) is a radio station operated by Leslie County Broadcasting with studios on Main Street in Hazard, Kentucky. It airs a CHR music format. The legendary call sign of WKIC has been heard on the AM dial for over 60 years. WKIC-FM began broadcasting at 96.5 in the 1950s. Shortly afterwards WKIC-FM moved to 94.1. In 1964 WKIC began broadcasting on 101.1. The call sign was changed to WSGS in 1970.[2] WKIC returned to the FM dial in 2009 at 97.9. [3]
The station has been assigned these call letters by the Federal Communications Commission since August 24, 2009.[1]
