WYLD (AM)
WYLD is a traditional Urban Gospel outlet based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The iHeartMedia, Inc. stations broadcasts at 940 kHz with 10 kW-Daytime/500 W-Nighttime power. Its transmitter is located in New Orleans' Algiers district, and its studios are located downtown.
History
In the 1950s stations call sign was WTPS owned by the Time-Picayune Newspaper and affiliated with the Mutual Broadcasting system. It then became WYLD. WYLD was a very successful Urban Contemporary outlet in the 1960s and 1970s before it shifted its format to sister station WYLD-FM. The AM would later evolve to a community-oriented Urban Adult Contemporary format in the 1970s to its current format in the 1990s.
